His Salvation Is Near
Let me hear what God the LORD will speak, for he will speak peace to his people, to his saints; but let them not turn back to folly. Surely his salvation is near to those who fear him, that glory may dwell in our land. Steadfast love and faithfulness meet; righteousness and peace kiss each other. Faithfulness springs up from the ground, and righteousness looks down from the sky. Yes, the LORD will give what is good, and our land will yield its increase. Righteousness will go before him and make his footsteps a way. – Psalm 85:8-13
Dear friends,
This section of the Psalms celebrates the salvation that comes from the Word of the Lord. Several attributes of God’s character are described as coming together:
We envision the meeting of steadfast love and faithfulness.
The kissing of righteousness and peace.
And the horizon – where the ground meets the sky – encompassing faithfulness and righteousness.
This beautiful imagery calls us to follow… Righteousness is then personified, as going before the Lord so that the footsteps of that righteousness might be followed by those who have been granted salvation! I pray that today, you might celebrate the salvation of our Lord Jesus Christ, and in the blessing his faithfulness, steadfast love, and righteousness, that you might follow him.
