Prayer of the Day

Almighty God our Father, your generous goodness comes to us new every day. By the work of your Spirit lead us to acknowledge your goodness, give thanks for your benefits, and serve you in willing obedience; through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Scripture   Lesson Philippians 4:6-7

6Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

The word of the Lord.

Thanks be to God.

Gospel: Matthew 6:25-33

Pastor:  The Holy Gospel according to Matthew, the sixth chapter.

People:  Glory to you, O Lord.

[Jesus said,] 25“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? 26Look at the birds of the air; they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? 27And can any of you by worrying add a single hour to your span of life? 28And why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they neither toil nor spin, 29yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not clothed like one of these. 30But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? 31Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear?’ 32For it is the Gentiles who strive for all these things; and indeed your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33But strive first for the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”

Pastor:  The Gospel of the Lord.

People:  Praise to you, O Christ.

Hymn – LBW #409  Praise and Thanksgiving

Response to the Word: Creed and Confession

Pastor:  In Christ, you have heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation.

People:  We believe in him and are marked with the seal of the promised Holy Spirit.

Pastor:  Living together in trust and hope, we confess our faith.

People:  I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Pastor:  Build yourselves up on your most holy faith;

People: pray in the Holy Spirit.

Pastor:  Keep yourselves in the love of God;

People: look forward to the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Pastor:   If anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation:

People: Everything old has passed away; behold, everything has become new!

Pastor:  God has given us the ministry of reconciliation. Therefore, let us be reconciled to God and to one another. Gracious God,

People: have mercy on us. In your compassion forgive us our sins, known and unknown, things done and left undone. Uphold us by your Spirit so that we may live and serve you in newness of life, to the honor and glory of your holy name; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Pastor:  The almighty and merciful Lord grant us pardon, forgiveness, and remission of all our sins.

People: Amen.

Peace

Pastor:  Sisters and brothers, rejoice. Mend your ways, encourage one another, agree with one another, live in peace.

Pastor:  The peace of the Lord be with you always.

People: And also with you.

Sharing of the Peace

For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.
