WELCOME and ANNOUNCEMENTS

*INVOCATION

Lay Minister:          In the name of the Father and of the † Son and of the Holy Spirit.

People:        Amen.

CONFESSION AND FORGIVENESS

Lay Minister:       Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hid: Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you and worthily magnify your holy name, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

People:        Amen.

Lay Minister:   If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.  But if we confess our sins, God who is faithful and just will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

(Silence for reflection and self-examination)

Lay Minister:   Most merciful God,

People:        We confess that we are in bondage to sin and cannot free ourselves. We have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. For the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways, to the glory of your holy name. Amen.

Lay Minister:          In the mercy of almighty God, Jesus Christ was given to die for you, and for his sake God forgives you all your sins.  To those who believe in Jesus Christ he gives the power to become the children of God and bestows on them the Holy Spirit.

People:        Amen.

GREETING

Lay Minister:       The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all.

People:        And also with you.

CHILDREN’S CHURCH DISMISSAL

FIRST LESSON     Romans 5:1–5

1Therefore, since we are justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2through whom we have obtained access to this grace in which we stand; and we boast in our hope of sharing the glory of God. 3And not only that, but we also boast in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, 4and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, 5and hope does not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us.

Lay Leader: The word of the Lord.

People: Thanks be to God.

*VERSE

*GOSPEL LESSON    John 16:12-15

Lay Minister:          The Holy Gospel according to St. John, the sixteenth chapter.

People:        Glory to you, O Lord.

[Jesus said,] 12“I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. 13When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth; for he will not speak on his own, but will speak whatever he hears, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. 14He will glorify me, because he will take what is mine and declare it to you. 15All that the Father has is mine. For this reason I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you.”

Lay Minister:          The Gospel of the Lord.

People:        Praise to you, O Christ.

THE MESSAGE                   Art Mory

THE ATHANASIAN CREED

Lay Minister: Whoever desires to be saved must, above all, hold the catholic faith.

People: Whoever does not keep it whole and undefiled will without doubt perish eternally.

Lay Minister: And the catholic faith is this,

People: That we worship one God in Trinity and Trinity in Unity, neither confusing the persons nor dividing the substance.

Lay Minister: For the Father is one person, the Son is another, and the Holy Spirit is another.

People: But the Godhead of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit is one: the glory equal, the majesty coeternal.

Lay Minister: Such as the Father is, such is the Son, and such is the Holy Spirit:

People: The Father uncreated, the Son uncreated, the Holy Spirit uncreated;

Lay Minister: The Father infinite, the Son infinite, the Holy Spirit infinite;

People: The Father eternal, the Son eternal, the Holy Spirit eternal.

Lay Minister: And yet there are not three Eternals, but one Eternal,

People: Just as there are not three Uncreated or three Infinites, but one Uncreated and one Infinite.

Lay Minister: In the same way, the Father is almighty, the Son almighty, the Holy Spirit almighty;

People: And yet there are not three Almighties, but one Almighty.

Lay Minister: So the Father is God, the Son is God, the Holy Spirit is God;

People: And yet there are not three Gods, but one God.

Lay Minister: So the Father is Lord, the Son is Lord, the Holy Spirit is Lord;

People: And yet there are not three Lords, but one Lord.

Lay Minister: Just as we are compelled by the Christian truth to acknowledge each distinct person as God and Lord,

People: So also are we prohibited by the catholic religion to say that there are three Gods or Lords.

Lay Minister: The Father is not made nor created nor begotten by anyone.

People: The Son is neither made nor created, but begotten of the Father alone. The Holy Spirit is of the Father and of the Son, neither made nor created nor begotten, but proceeding.

Lay Minister: Thus, there is one Father, not three Fathers; one Son, not three Sons; one Holy Spirit, not three Holy Spirits.

People: And in this Trinity none is before or after another; none is greater or less than another; But the whole three persons are coeternal with each other and coequal, so that in all things, as has been stated above, the Trinity in Unity and Unity in Trinity is to be worshiped. Therefore, whoever desires to be saved must think thus about the Trinity.

Lay Minister: But it is also necessary for everlasting salvation that one faithfully believe the incarnation of our Lord Jesus Christ.

People: Therefore, it is the right faith that we believe and confess that our Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, is at the same time both God and man. He is God, begotten from the substance of the Father before all ages; And He is man, born from the substance of His mother in this age: Perfect God and perfect man, composed of a rational soul and human flesh;

Lay Minister: equal to the Father with respect to His divinity, less than the Father with respect to His humanity.

People: Although He is God and man, He is not two, but one Christ: One, however, not by the conversion of the divinity into flesh, but by the assumption of the humanity into God; one altogether, not by confusion of substance, but by unity of person.

Lay Minister: For as the rational soul and flesh is one man, so God and man is one Christ,

People: Who suffered for our salvation, descended into hell, rose again the third day from the dead,

Lay Minister: Ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father, God Almighty, from whence He will come to judge the living and the dead.

People: At His coming all people will rise again with their bodies and give an account concerning their own deeds.

Lay Minister: And those who have done good will enter into eternal life, and those who have done evil into eternal fire.

People: This is the catholic faith; whoever does not believe it faithfully and firmly cannot be saved.

DIALOGUE
Lay Minister:  The Lord be with you.
People: And also with you.

Lay Minister:  Lift up your hearts.
People: We lift them to the Lord.

Lay Minister:   Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
People: It is right to give him thanks and praise.

PREFACE

Lay Minister:  It is indeed right and salutary that we should at all times and in all places offer thanks and praise to you, O Lord, holy Father, through Christ our Lord; who rose beyond the bounds of death and, as he had promised, poured out your Spirit of life and power upon the chosen disciples. At this the whole earth exults in boundless joy. And so, with the Church on earth and the hosts of heaven, we praise your name and join their unending hymn:

THANKSGIVING
Lay Minister:   Blessed are you, Lord of heaven and earth. In mercy for our fallen world you gave your only Son, that all those who believe in him should not perish, but have eternal life. We give thanks to you for the salvation you have prepared for us through Jesus Christ. Send now your Holy Spirit into our hearts, that we may receive our Lord with a living faith as he comes to us in his holy supper.
People: Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.

WORDS OF INSTITUTION
Lay Minister:   In the night in which he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus took bread, and gave thanks; broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying: Take and eat; this is my body, given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me.
Again, after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it for all to drink, saying: This cup is the new covenant in my blood, shed for you and for all people for the forgiveness of sin. Do this for the remembrance of me.

THE LORD’S PRAYER
Lay Minister:   Lord, remember us in your kingdom, and teach us to pray:
People: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

POST-COMMUNION BLESSING
Pastor: The body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ strengthen you and keep you in his grace.
People: Amen.

POST-COMMUNION PRAYER
Lay Minister:   We give you thanks, almighty God, that you have refreshed us through the healing power of this gift of life; and we pray that in your mercy you would strengthen us, through this gift, in faith toward you and in fervent love toward one another; for the sake of Jesus Christ our Lord.
People: Amen.

BLESSING
Lay Minister:   Almighty God, Father, ☩ Son, and Holy Spirit, bless you now and forever.
People: Amen.
