Pastor: We gather in the name of the Father and of the † Son and of the Holy Spirit.
People: Amen.

Confession and Forgiveness:
Pastor: God of all mercy and consolation, come to the aid of your people, turning us from our sin to live for you alone. Give us the power of your Holy Spirit that, attentive to your Word, we may confess our sins, receive your forgiveness, and grow into the fullness of your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
People: Amen.

Pastor: Let us confess our sin in the presence of God and of one another.

(Silence for reflection and self-examination)

Pastor: Gracious God,
People: Have mercy on us. In your compassion, forgive us our sins, known and unknown, things done and left undone. Uphold us by your Spirit so that we may live and serve you in newness of life, to the honor and glory of your holy name; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Pastor: Almighty God have mercy on you, forgive you all your sins through our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen you in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep you in eternal life.

Reaching for You
Verse 1
You created me inside, your great imagination,
You’re the one who gave me my first breath.
You have overseen my life, and brought me to redemption,
And I know that you’re not finished with me yet

Chorus
I’m reaching for you, I’m singing to you
I’m lifting my hands to praise you,
I’m lifting my voice to thank you
I’m reaching for you, Jesus I need you
I’ve given my heart to know you,
I’m living my life to serve you
I’m reaching for you.

Verse 2
You’re the one who spoke the Word, of Life to light my darkess,
You opened up my eyes ‘til I could see.
Jesus you have promised to, complete the work you’ve started,
Faithful to fulfill you grace in me. (chorus)

Bridge
Pour out your love from heaven,
Fill me, till I overflow, Lord I want more
Reach down your hands from heaven,
Pull me, closer than ever before, Lord I want more (repeat), (chorus)

Chain Breaker
Verse 1
If you’ve been walking the same old road for miles and miles
If you’ve been hearing the same old voice tell the same old lies
If you’re trying to fill the same old holes inside
There’s a better life, there’s a better life.

Chorus
If you’ve got pain, He’s a pain taker.
If you feel lost, He’s a way maker.
If you need freedom or saving, He’s a prison-shaking Savior,
If you’ve got chains, He’s a chain breaker.

Verse 2
We’ve all searched for the light of day in the dead of night
We’ve all found ourselves worn out from the same old fight
We’ve all run to things we know just ain’t right,
When there’s a better life, there’s a better life. (chorus)

Bridge
If you believe it, If you receive it
If you can feel it, Somebody testify (repeat),(chorus)

Pastor: Let us pray….
People: Amen.

First Lesson  Psalm 80:7-15

Restore us, O God of hosts;
let your face shine, that we may be saved.
You brought a vine out of Egypt;
you drove out the nations and planted it.
You cleared the ground for it; it took deep root and filled the land.

The mountains were covered with its shade,
the mighty cedars with its branches;
it sent out its branches to the sea,
and its shoots to the River.

Why then have you broken down its walls,
so that all who pass along the way pluck its fruit?
The boar from the forest ravages it,
and all that move in the field feed on it.

Turn again, O God of hosts;
look down from heaven, and see;
have regard for this vine,
the stock that your right hand planted.

Reader: The word of the Lord.
People: Thanks be to God.

Gospel Acclamation

Gospel Lesson

Matthew 21:33-46

‘Listen to another parable. There was a landowner who planted a vineyard, put a fence around it, dug a wine press in it, and built a watch-tower. Then he leased it to tenants and went to another country. When the harvest time had come, he sent his slaves to the tenants to collect his produce. But the tenants seized his slaves and beat one, killed another, and stoned another. 36Again he sent other slaves, more than the first; and they treated them in the same way. Finally he sent his son to them, saying, “They will respect my son.” But when the tenants saw the son, they said to themselves, “This is the heir; come, let us kill him and get his inheritance.” So they seized him, threw him out of the vineyard, and killed him. Now when the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those tenants?’ They said to him, ‘He will put those wretches to a miserable death, and lease the vineyard to other tenants who will give him the produce at the harvest time.’

Jesus said to them, ‘Have you never read in the scriptures: “The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; this was the Lord’s doing, and it is amazing in our eyes”? Therefore I tell you, the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people that produces the fruits of the kingdom. The one who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces; and it will crush anyone on whom it falls.’

When the chief priests and the Pharisees heard his parables, they realized that he was speaking about them. They wanted to arrest him, but they feared the crowds, because they regarded him as a prophet.

The Message “God’s Gifts for God’s Purposes: Preserving His Own”

by Pastor John Scheusner

Hymn of the Day  Children of the Heavenly Father

The Apostles’ Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the
power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under
Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

The Prayers of the People
Each prayer petition will end with –
Reader: Let us pray to the Lord
People: Lord have mercy.

The Peace We share a sign of God’s Peace with one another
Pastor: The Peace of the Lord be with you always!
People: And also with you.

Great Thanksgiving

Pastor: It is indeed right, our duty and our joy … we praise your name and join their unending hymn:

Words Of Institution
Pastor: Blessed are you, Lord of heaven and earth. In mercy for our fallen world you gave your only Son, that all those who believe in him should not perish, but have eternal life. We give thanks to you for the salvation you have prepared for us through Jesus Christ. Send now your Holy Spirit into our hearts, that we may receive our Lord with a living faith as he comes to us in his holy supper.
People: Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.

Pastor: In the night in which he was betrayed…

The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

Communion Songs

Is He Worthy
Verse 1

But do you know that all the dark
Won’t stop the light from getting through
We do
Do you wish that you could see it all made new
We do

Is all creation groaning? It is
Is a new creation coming? It is
Is the glory of the Lord
To be the light within our midst
It is
Is it good that we remind ourselves of this
It is

Chorus 1
Is anyone worthy
Is anyone whole
Is anyone able to break the seal and open the scroll

He is David’s Root
And the Lamb who died to ransom the slave

Of all blessing and honor and glory
Is He worthy of this? He is

Does the Father truly love us? He does
Does the Spirit move among us? He does
And does Jesus our Messiah
Hold forever those He loves? He does
Does our God intend to dwell again with us
He does

Is anyone worthy
Is anyone whole
Is anyone able to break the seal and open the scroll
The Lion of Judah who conquered the grave
He is David’s Root
